I believe it's a combination of C) Active Directory Groups and A) LDAP Groups, depending on the customer's setup.

Active Directory Groups, definitely. Local groups wouldn't make sense for a cloud-connected setup, and LDAP is a bit too generic. This is a no-brainer!
