Easy peasy, C is the answer. Unless, of course, the CPE was installed by a serial prankster. In that case, all bets are off!

C, no doubt. If the serial number doesn't match, that's gotta be the issue. Though I guess it could also be a faulty barcode scanner. Maybe we should invest in some better tech, just sayin'.
