Show Suggested Answer Hide Answer
Suggested Answer: D

The LOOKUP function is used to return the value of a specified field in a different row, which can be defined relative to the current row. In this context, it can be used to include a number with the position of each state within each region by looking up the SUM([Quantity]) in each respective position.Reference:The information is inferred from general Tableau knowledge as well as the following sources:

I think Talia is right, WINDOW_SUM(SUM ([Quantity])) makes more sense for including a number with the position of each state within each region.

But wouldn't INDEX() be more appropriate for finding the position of each state within each region?

B) INDEX () is the way to go, no doubt about it. Unless you want to end up in the doghouse, that is.

D) LOOKUP (SUM ([Quantity])) is a bit of a wild card. I don't think it's the right fit for this problem. B) is the clear winner in my opinion.

I'm not sure about D) LOOKUP (SUM ([Quantity])), but I would go with B) INDEX () as well.

C) WINDOW_SUM(SUM ([Quantity])) could also work, but I still think B) INDEX () is the better option.

I disagree, I believe the correct answer is C) WINDOW_SUM(SUM ([Quantity]))

A) FIRST () sounds like it would just give you the first state in the region, which isn't what we need. B) INDEX () is the way to go.

Yeah, FIRST () would only give us the first state, but INDEX () is what we need.

C) WINDOW_SUM(SUM ([Quantity])) is an interesting option, but I don't think it's the correct formula for this task. The question is asking for the position, not the sum.

I think C) WINDOW_SUM(SUM ([Quantity])) would not give us the position of each state within the region.
