I bet the network admin is just trying to find an excuse to get a new Ethernet switch. 'Packet loss? Time for an upgrade!'

MTU is a good one. It's easy to overlook, but a mismatch can definitely cause packet drops and slow performance.

Routing tables? Really? That's more for network-level issues, not performance problems. I'd focus on the lower-level stuff first.

The packet loss on the nodes is definitely the first thing I'd check. That's a clear indicator of an issue on the physical layer.

I think looking at the MTU of each side of the link could also provide valuable insights.
