Question #: 89
Topic #: 9
[All CAD Questions]

What field type would you select if you want to query records from another table on a form?

Show Suggested Answer Hide Answer
Suggested Answer: A

Comprehensive and Detailed Step-by-Step

Reference Field Type:

The Reference field type is used to create a relationship between two tables. It allows you to select and display records from another table directly on a form.

For example, adding a 'Caller' field to an Incident form enables you to query and select records from the sys_user table.

Why Other Options Are Incorrect:

Option B (Phone Number field type): This is used for storing phone numbers, not for querying records from another table.

Option C (String field type): While this stores plain text, it does not allow querying or establishing relationships with other tables.

Option D (Date field type): This is used for date or time values, not for referencing another table.

Reference field type, obviously. Unless you're trying to find the phone number of the table you're querying. In that case, Phone Number all the way!

D. Date field type, because I'm always wondering what day it is. Gotta keep track of those important dates, you know?

I'm not sure, but I don't think Phone Number or Date field types would be the right choice.

I agree with Deeanna, the Reference field type makes sense for querying records from another table.

C. String field type, because that's what I use for everything. Simple and versatile, just like me.

I'm going with B. Phone Number. Who doesn't love a good phone number query?

Definitely the Reference field type! That's the one for looking up data from other tables.
