I see your point, Gabriele. However, I think D) Define characteristic 'COSTOBJ' as a navigation attribute for Controlling Area is the best option for flexibility in the model.

But wouldn't it make more sense to have 'COSTOBJ' as the main characteristic and Controlling Area as a navigation attribute? That's why I think C) is the right choice.
