A customer reports far lower than expected performance on the FlashBlade, in a Oracle RMAN backup solution. The environment consists of four Oracle database nodes, each with 1x10Gb/s NIC, connected via NFS, to a fully populated FlashBlade chassis. Only a small number of blades are being used. Synthetic performance testing shows no performance issues in the network.

What should the architect suggest to causing this issue?

Option B is definitely the way to go. Though I'm curious, does the FlashBlade come with a free lightsaber or is that an extra accessory?

Launa: Yeah, that's a good point. Maybe they need to increase the number of channels.

User 3: I think the number of RMAN channels being too low could also be causing the performance problem.

Haha, I bet the customer is wishing they had a 'FlashStick' instead of a 'FlashBlade' right now. But in all seriousness, B seems like the right call here.

I agree with Alba. The performance issue is probably due to the dNFS settings or the RMAN channel configuration, not the HCC compression or the FlashBlade's sustained write performance.

But could it also be because Oracle RMAN uses HCC compression, making it a poor use case for FlashBlade?

The correct answer is B. The dNFS configuration or the number of RMAN channels is likely the issue here. The other options don't seem to be the problem.

Let's check the dNFS settings on the Oracle nodes.
