I think Option C, chmod +x bobsfile, is the way to go. Executable permissions should give bob the write access he needs. *wink wink*

Option B, chown bob:bob bobsfile, is the correct way to grant the user bob write permission to this file. Changing the group ownership to 'bob' will do the trick.
