Fiber attenuation, huh? I bet the person who designed this fiber link needs to go back to Fiber Optics 101.

I bet the person who wrote this question has been spending too much time in the dark fiber closet. The answer is obvious!

But wouldn't using EDFA also help improve OSNR in the WOM system?

I agree with Polly, high optical fiber attenuation can definitely reduce OSNR.

Hmm, I was thinking it might be the use of EDFA, but I guess that's not the case. Fiber attenuation makes the most sense.

I agree with Elden. Fiber attenuation is the culprit here. EDFA, multiplexers, and new fibers aren't the issue.

New optical fibers wouldn't make a difference in this scenario.

Yeah, using EDFA or multiplexers wouldn't affect it as much.

The answer is clearly D. Optical fiber attenuation is too high. That's the main factor that reduces the OSNR at the receiver.
