I don't think NVRAM dependency is required, it's more about having dedicated bootflash drives for the Gen 6 nodes.

I agree with that, having dedicated bootflash drives is a requirement for adding Gen 6 nodes to Gen 5 cluster.

I think when adding Gen 6 nodes to an existing Gen 5 Isilon cluster, you need dedicated bootflash drives.
