Question #: 40
Topic #: 2
[All 220-1101 Questions]

A technician is setting up a new workstation at a customer's office. The office network has one public IP address and utilizes NAT for the internal network. In addition, DHCP is not used, so

all IP addresses are manually provisioned. Which of the following IP addresses should the technician assign to the workstation?

Show Suggested Answer Hide Answer
Suggested Answer: C

The IP address 192.168.1.56 is within the private IP address range (192.168.0.0 to 192.168.255.255) and is appropriate for use in an internal network utilizing NAT (Network Address Translation). The other IP addresses provided (172.15.65.10, 175.16.20.3, and 193.167.35.4) are either public IP addresses or not in the private IP range suitable for an internal network using NAT.

Those are public IP addresses, and since the office network only has one public IP address, it's better to use a private IP like 192.168.1.56.

Haha, D) 193.167.35.4 sounds like the kind of IP address you'd find in a sci-fi movie, not a real office network. C) is the way to go!

I'm torn between B) and C), but I think C) 192.168.1.56 is the safest bet. Can't go wrong with the classic 192.168.x.x network!

But what about the other options? Why not 172.15.65.10 or 175.16.20.3?

A) 172.15.65.10 is also a private IP address, but it's not in the typical 192.168.x.x range, so C) is probably the best choice.

D) 193.167.35.4 seems like a public IP address, which doesn't make sense in a private network with NAT. I'd go with C.

D) 193.167.35.4 is indeed a public IP address, so it's not suitable for this scenario.

A) 172.15.65.10 is not in the private IP address range, so it wouldn't work.

C) 192.168.1.56 is the correct answer. Since the network uses NAT, the internal IP addresses should be in the private IP range, which is 192.168.0.0/16.
