CIPS Exam L4M6 Topic 5 Question 52 Discussion

Actual exam question for CIPS's L4M6 exam
Question #: 52
Topic #: 5
[All L4M6 Questions]

Debbie is a procurement manager at a small manufacturer company. She had a contract in place with a company that provides uniforms, but finds that she doesn't need to order much from them as the staff re-wear the same clothes to work. The contract has now expired. Should Debbie do a Competitive Tender to source a new contract?

Show Suggested Answer Hide Answer
Suggested Answer: C

The correct answer is 'no-the contract is not of significant value'. CIPS state that competitive tenders should only be used when 'the item or service is of significant value' p.73. Debbie could continue using the same supplier, but she should organise a contract extension or a new contract if she does.

Ooh, Debbie's got some tough decisions to make. But hey, at least her staff have good taste - reusing the same clothes is the height of sustainable fashion these days!

Haha, Debbie must be a real fashionista if her staff are constantly rewearing the same outfits. Maybe she should start a staff uniform swap instead of a tender!

Hmm, I don't know. If the uniforms are working fine and the value isn't too high, maybe she can just keep using the same supplier. Why fix what ain't broke, you know?

I agree, a competitive tender is the way to go. You can't just keep using the same supplier forever, even if the previous contract has lapsed. Gotta keep things fair and open!

Well, of course Debbie should do a competitive tender. The contract has expired, so she needs to follow proper procurement procedures to ensure fairness and get the best possible deal.
