Question #: 19
Topic #: 1
[All L4M4 Questions]

Which of the following can be interpreted as a normal business practice by some cultures but a form of bribery by others?

Show Suggested Answer Hide Answer
Suggested Answer: D

This is a facilitation payment. It's when a sum of money is given for 'helping to facilitate' a contract. E.g. a procurement manager may accept a facilitation payment from a supplier for selecting him to be a new supplier for a big contract.

In the UK this is definitely considered a bribe. It's also against the CIPS Code of Conflict

D) facilitation payment - Classic case of 'one man's bribery is another man's tip.' I wonder if there's a Yelp for that kind of thing.

B) verbal contracts - Where I'm from, a handshake is as good as a signature. But I bet that wouldn't fly in some corporate boardrooms.

D) facilitation payment - I've heard that in some places, this is just how you get things done, but in others, it's totally taboo. Gotta know the local customs, y'know?
