I'm going to have to go with A. Those nodes are now operating on a separate network, whether they like it or not. Blockchain doesn't mess around when it comes to hard forks!
D sounds right to me. If they're not updating, they won't be able to achieve consensus with the rest of the nodes. Might as well be on their own little blockchain.
I'd go with B. They're considered out of compliance if they refuse to update with the rest of the network. That's just how it works in the blockchain world.
