A SysOps administrator needs to ensure that an Amazon RDS for PostgreSQL DB instance has available backups The DB instance has automated backups turned on with a backup retention period of 7 days. However, no automated backups for the DB instance have been created in the past month.

What could be the cause of the lack of automated backups?

Show Suggested Answer Hide Answer
Suggested Answer: B

STORAGE_FULL State:

When an RDS instance is in the STORAGE_FULL state, automated backups cannot be performed because there is insufficient storage available.

Steps to Resolve:

Go to the AWS Management Console.

Navigate to RDS and select the DB instance.

Check the storage metrics to confirm the STORAGE_FULL state.

Increase the allocated storage for the DB instance to provide sufficient space for automated backups.

Wait, I thought the DB instance had to be in Multi-AZ for automated backups to work. C) The DB instance is not configured for Multi-AZ seems like the right answer.

But what about the backup retention period? Could that be a factor as well?

I think you might be right. The DB instance not being configured for Multi-AZ could be the cause of the lack of automated backups.

But could it also be that the backup retention period must be 30 days?

I think the issue could be that the DB instance is not configured for Multi-AZ.

I disagree, I believe the DB instance might be in the STORAGE_FULL state.

I'm going with A) The Amazon S3 bucket that stores the backups is full. That seems like the most likely scenario if no backups have been created in a month.

Hmm, I'm pretty sure it's B) The DB instance is in the STORAGE_FULL state. That would definitely prevent any new backups from being created.

Yeah, I agree. It's probably best to check the storage status of the DB instance first.

I don't think so. The issue seems more likely to be related to the storage of the DB instance.

Could it also be that the Amazon S3 bucket is full and unable to store the backups?
